Download YouTube videos on iPhone

On iPhone and iPad the download runs through Safari or any other browser — no app required. The file lands in Files → Downloads, and a couple of taps put the video into Photos.

Saving a video on iPhone without apps

iOS browsers have a built-in download manager, and that is all you need. No downloader app to install, no subscription inside it and no access to your photo library — the work happens on the server.

Copy the video link in the YouTube app with Share → Copy link. Open this page in Safari, tap the input field, choose Paste and press Find video.

Pick an MP4 quality or MP3 audio and press Download. Safari asks for confirmation and starts the transfer — progress shows in the downloads icon next to the address bar.

The finished file lives in the Files app under Downloads. To put the video into Photos, open it, tap the Share button and choose Save Video.

iOS specifics

Safari and a link

Downloads run through Safari's own manager; Chrome and Firefox for iOS work as well.

The Files app

Everything lands in Files → Downloads, where it can be renamed, moved or deleted.

Save to Photos

From the Share menu the video joins your library and behaves like any recorded clip.

iPad too

The steps are identical on iPadOS, and the larger screen makes picking a quality easier.

If something goes wrong

No downloads icon in Safari? Check that the transfer actually started: iOS sometimes asks you to confirm downloading a file from a site. After confirming, the arrow icon appears at the right of the address bar.

Out of space and iPhone refuses a large file? Pick a lower resolution, take the MP3 instead, or free up storage before downloading.

File not in Photos? It has only been downloaded so far. Saving to the library is manual: Files → Downloads → the file → Share → Save Video.
